For sponsors with water replenishment goals
Sponsor the 2026 monitoring record for a California orchard groundwater program: source-labelled water-use data and a benchmark comparison.
For data centers, beverage and food companies. Available now: the benchmark efficiency number from the 2026 season on about 570 citrus acres in the Kaweah and Kings subbasins, with Madera County records, for farm units confirmed in the applicable Madera County GSA account, from the GSA’s satellite ETAW, final in January. Citrus volumes come from pump run-time records and the block application rate, not a flow meter. Eligible blocks may advance to a reduction assessment in a later monitored season and, separately, to an independently reviewed volumetric water benefit if the site, baseline, indicator, GSA reconciliation and assurance requirements are accepted. Advancement is not automatic.
Your funding pays for sensors, meters, install and monitoring on orchards in your watershed. Every number states its source, carries one of three labels, and is signed into a record anyone can look up. Project-period withdrawal will be metered where qualifying wellhead meters are in place, with calculated or estimated values labelled by source; pressure chamber readings document plant water status and do not measure pumped volume. The validated tier goes through an independent assurance provider using the VWBA 2.0 accounting guidance, reconciled against the grower’s GSA account, and protected so the same water is not counted twice. The supervising crop adviser makes every irrigation call; the software does not.
The 2026 benchmark comparison is not a groundwater reduction, volumetric water benefit, replenishment volume or independently validated environmental claim.

What you fund
A project on a working orchard.
- SensorsSoil-moisture sensors and qualifying wellhead meters where needed, with existing meters used after their installation, coverage and calibration records are reviewed.
- InstallInstalled and serviced by our field team.
- MonitoringMonitored seasons with pressure chamber readings in the orchard, and comparison blocks where the accepted protocol requires them.
- The validated volumeReduced withdrawal, metered where qualifying wellhead meters are in place and reviewed by an independent third party before any validated volume is claimed. The grower receives 50% of the net payment for it.
Three tiers, in order of availability
Three numbers, three labels, never mixed.
The benchmark number is the ask today. The measured and validated numbers come later, each with its own gate; advancement is not automatic.

Benchmark efficiency
Farms that run below the published benchmark. The farm’s own 2026 water figure (applied water from its pump records, or, for farm units confirmed in the applicable Madera County GSA account, the GSA’s satellite ETAW), compared with a named and dated DWR county estimate on the same basis for the same crop. A performance claim, not a reduction; available now, priced per sponsored acre.
Sample dataEfficiency against a published benchmark, for the farm's own fields. A performance claim, not a reduction.
A comparison with a published figureEach record states its source. For the 2026 citrus records, applied water is calculated from logged pump run-time and the block application rate, not from a flow meter, and compared with a named and dated DWR county applied-water estimate for the crop. For the 2026 Madera County records, for farm units confirmed in the applicable Madera County GSA account, the figure is the GSA’s own satellite ETAW for the farm units, compared with a DWR county ETAW estimate on the same consumptive-use basis; the farm’s meter records are kept alongside the satellite figures for comparison and are not presented as the GSA’s record.Citrus volumes from pump run-time records and the block application rate, not a flow meter.2026 season records on about 570 citrus acres; Madera County records, for farm units confirmed in the applicable GSA account, from the GSA’s satellite ETAW, final in January - 2027 season
Measured reduction
Proposed for a later season. Project-period groundwater withdrawal compared with an accepted site-specific baseline, using the measurement basis stated on each record. AgWaterAI calculation; not independently validated. Baseline method and site eligibility remain subject to technical review. Pressure chamber readings document tree water status alongside it. Priced per acre-foot.
Sample dataMeasured reduction against the farm's own weather-adjusted history. Measured and signed by AgWaterAI, not independently validated.
Measured, not independently validated - 2027 vintage, validation after the season
Validated benefit
Validated benefits. The same record reviewed by an independent assurance provider using the VWBA 2.0 guidance, under an accepted project-specific method. The baseline cap at the allocation is our proposal, subject to that review. No validated record has been issued under this program. For replenishment programs that require it.
VWBA 2.0
Validator named on the record. Baseline capped at the allocation.
Validated volumetric benefit under VWBA 2.0, baseline capped at the allocation, independent validator named.
Independent validator named on the record“Independent validator named” means the validator’s name is printed on each validated record when it is issued. This label is not issued today; no validator is appointed, and the baseline cap at the allocation is AgWaterAI’s proposal, subject to the validator’s acceptance.
What the sponsor receives
- Signed reading summaries
- Meter photos and logs
- Pressure chamber readings
- The GSA statement
- A unit ID with its claimed-once record
What the benchmark number looks like
The benchmark number puts one block’s applied water, from its own pump record, beside the published figure for its crop. Water quantities are in blue; the dashed line is the published figure.
acre-feet per acre, applied water
The block values are illustrative. No farm, well, meter or reading behind them is real. The benchmark line is the published figure named beside it. Benchmark row: Citrus & Subtropical (DWR crop category), includes olives and avocados, Tulare, applied water: California Department of Water Resources, 2024. The benchmark number compares one full season from the farm’s own wells with that figure. A comparison, never a change over time.
How each number is made, the benchmark sources and the deductions are on the method page. The accounting follows the public VWBA 2.0 guidebook and each GSA’s own rules. AgWaterAI’s record-signing method is patent-pending.

| Where | Crop | Acres | Evidence on file | Sponsor now | What may follow |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kaweah and Kings subbasins | Citrus | About 570 | A full 2026 season of pump run-time with the block application rate on file; about 400 of these acres have three or more full seasons | NowSponsor the 2026 records: the benchmark number, calculated from logged pump run-time and the block application rate, as each record states. | May carry the measured number after the 2027 season where admissible history exists, and separately the validated number if the baseline and assurance requirements are accepted. Not automatic. |
| Madera County | Pistachio and mandarin citrus | About 620 | The GSA’s own satellite ETAW for the 2026 calendar year, for farm units confirmed in the applicable GSA account; the farm’s meter records are kept alongside for comparison | NowSponsor the 2026 records: the benchmark number from the GSA’s satellite ETAW, final in January. | May carry the measured number once an admissible baseline exists, and separately the validated number if the assurance requirements are accepted. Not automatic. |
| Kaweah and Kings subbasins | Citrus | About 130 | An earlier full season, gaps in the 2026 season, or a pump channel still to confirm | Not yet for 2026; an earlier season can carry the benchmark number on the same run-time basis, as each record states. | The 2026 record once the gaps are filled or the channel is confirmed; the measured number once an admissible baseline exists. |
| Madera County | Pistachio and mandarin citrus | About 1,500 | The GSA’s satellite ETAW per field, to be obtained with the grower’s authorization before anything is computed | Not yet. | Joins the path once the per-field figures are obtained. |
From our own records as of October 7, 2026, rounded to the nearest 10 acres. Citrus volumes come from pump run-time records and the block application rate, not a flow meter; Madera 2026 records use the GSA’s own satellite ETAW; the farm’s meter records are kept alongside for comparison and are not presented as the GSA’s record. Blocks in a probationary basin are left out. Block identities and the evidence behind each row are shared under NDA with the grower’s authorization.
About 4,000 contracted acres across the company today. A further 8,000 acres are committed, subject to execution.
How it works
From the farm’s wells to your payment, in five steps.
The farm’s wells
Metered pumping on the farm’s own wells. Where there is no meter, logged pump run-time, with that basis stated on the record, until one goes in.
Our sensors and readings
Soil probes on the blocks, pressure chamber readings by our crew on the monitoring plan’s schedule, and CIMIS weather.
Signed record
Probe reading summaries are signed into a tamper-evident record. Each issued order is kept with the readings behind it. Each record states whether a value is measured, calculated, estimated or agency-reported.
Independent check
The three numbers are computed and labelled. A validator reviews before anyone claims a volumetric benefit.
Sponsor payment
You pay for the sensors and the evidence. The grower receives 50% of the net. Nothing is paid until a sponsor signs.
One season, one record
Each season starts from the baseline statements and the meters, runs under the adviser’s calls, ends in signed unit records, and goes to the independent check for the validated tier before you make a claim. Then it runs again.

What you get
A record you can report on.
- A volumetric benefit record aligned to VWBA 2.0Acre-feet per project, with the baseline and method behind them. The project developer and technical team will propose the appropriate VWBA 2.0 indicator and calculation method based on local hydrology and GSA accounting. Any independent assurance provider will assess the finalized method and evidence under its applicable criteria.
- Tamper-evident project recordsProbe reading summaries are signed today: each batch is hashed and commits to the previous one, so a later change shows, from the point of signing forward. Well-meter record signing is planned for project deployment and will be described as live after it is. AgWaterAI’s record-signing method is patent-pending.
- Plant-water-status evidencePressure chamber readings document tree water status and support agronomic interpretation of the monitored irrigation protocol. They do not quantify or validate groundwater withdrawal.
- Third-party validationAn independent third party reviews the record and AgWaterAI’s volume calculation before any validated volume is reported.
- Annual reportingA report each year per project: baseline, reduced withdrawal, GSA reconciliation including transfers and carryover, and validation.
Tamper-evident signing preserves the integrity of an attested record from signing forward. It does not by itself establish measurement accuracy, baseline eligibility, additionality, regulatory acceptance, a reduction in water use or a volumetric water benefit. Those questions depend on the underlying instruments, the project method, GSA records and any applicable independent assurance.
What you can say
One sentence per number.
Example language. A sponsor’s own counsel reviews any public claim before use.
| Number | Example language | Not for this number |
|---|---|---|
| Benchmark efficiency | “We fund monitoring on California orchards whose 2026 water figure, with its source stated on each record, is below a named and dated DWR county estimate on the same basis for the crop.” | Claims of water replenishment, compensation for other water use, or independent validation. |
| Measured reduction | “We funded a measured reduction of N acre-feet in applied water on California orchards against the farm’s own weather-adjusted history, measured and signed by AgWaterAI, not independently validated.” | Claims of water replenishment, compensation for other water use, or independent validation. |
| Validated benefit | “N acre-feet of volumetric water benefit under VWBA 2.0, independently validated; the validator’s statement is attached.” | Anything beyond the validator’s own statement. |
How a pilot runs
From your indication to a signed record.
October to December 2026
Sponsor indication and block selection. You tell us the tier, the basin and the acres; we propose blocks from the inventory above and share the evidence on file under NDA.
January 2027
Baseline statements and meters. GSA account statements with the grower’s authorization, wellhead meters where a block has none, and the baseline fixed and recorded before the season starts.
2027 season
Monitoring. Soil probes, pressure chamber readings and pump records through the season. The adviser makes every irrigation call.
Season end
Signed unit records. One record per block and season, labelled with its number, hash-linked and signed, with a public lookup.
In parallel
The independent check for the validated tier. An independent readiness assessment is planned and no assessor has been appointed. The validator is named on the record when the review is complete.
What sponsors screen for
Our answers, in our words.
- Credible implementer
- Our field team will install and service each project site. AgWaterAI grew out of a second-generation crop-advising practice that has worked Central Valley orchards since 1984.
- Additionality
- Our proposed baseline will use admissible site-specific historical pumping evidence where coverage and flow documentation are adequate. Blocks without a defensible historical volume may require a prospective measured baseline. Weather adjustment, the treatment of the GSA allocation and the final baseline cutoff remain subject to technical and assurance review. Reduced withdrawal below an accepted baseline may qualify if the indicator, eligibility, attribution and GSA accounting requirements are met; pumping cuts the GSA already requires never count.
- Pump-side monitoring
- Project-period groundwater withdrawal will be directly metered where qualifying wellhead meters are in place; any calculated or estimated values will be labelled by source. Pressure chamber readings document plant water status and agronomic response; they do not measure pumped volume. Results are reported as reduced withdrawal; we do not claim a reduction in crop water use.
- Time to benefit
- Where historical pumping records support an admissible baseline, the benefit can be counted from the monitored season after install, once validated. Otherwise a prospective measured baseline period is needed before the benefit is counted.
- Benefit duration
- The benefit period is written into the grower and sponsor agreements. For each sponsor-used recorded reduction, the grower agrees in writing not to sell or transfer the water behind that reduction or the allocation behind it, and not to use it to irrigate newly planted acreage, during the agreed claim period.
- Cost per volume
- Quoted per acre-foot of validated reduced withdrawal, project by project, with the sensors, install and monitoring that produce it.
- Independent validation
- An independent third party reviews AgWaterAI’s volume calculation, following the VWBA 2.0 accounting guidance, before any volume is reported as validated.
- Annual reporting
- One report per project each year, with the source-labelled records behind it.
The claim
Yours, once.
A sponsor may claim the share of the final volumetric water benefit expressly attributed to it under the project agreement and supported by the applicable assurance statement. The same attributed volume is not sold or claimed twice. The grower agrees in writing not to sell or transfer the water behind the reduction or use it to plant more acres. Proposed project controls will screen GSA transfers, carryover, later pumping, regulatory obligations and overlapping funded activities to prevent double counting or overstatement. Final treatment will follow the accepted project method and the applicable GSA account rules. Terms are set in written agreements with the sponsor and the grower.
