Our Story
AgWaterAI was founded in 2025 to bring AI-powered irrigation intelligence to California agriculture. Our platform combines 6 production ML models with 11M+ sensor readings and 320 harvest seasons of field data — the largest private agricultural sensor dataset in the Central Valley.
Our data foundation comes from Kern Irrigation Scheduling (KIS), founded in 1984 by Cal Poly-trained agronomist Rob McGill. His son Nick McGill, a Certified Crop Advisor with 16+ years of field experience, serves 14,000+ acres of irrigation consulting across the Central Valley, with 4,800+ acres now running AI-connected sensors.
In 2025, Nick partnered with JP Montgomery, an AI engineer, to transform this 9-year, 11M+ reading sensor data asset into a scalable SaaS platform. JP built the entire AI pipeline — 6 production models field-tested across 34 orchards — plus the SGMA allocation estimator, real-time monitoring system, and predictive irrigation engine.
